It's the end of the week. The weekend is here. For Catholics, that means the Lord's Day, which is properly celebrated by avoiding unnecessary work and by going to Holy Mass. How often, though, can we "sleep walk" through what Vatican 2 called "the source and summit of the Christian life?" (
Lumen Gentium, 11). We get so stuck in this mundane world of ours that we miss what is really happening at Mass (of course the wreckoation of many of our churches and the overemphasis on the "horizontal" dimension of the liturgy only exasperates this problem). Well, today, I thought we'd take a moment and look at what is
really happening at Mass on Sunday. Note, this will be happening where
you, dear reader, will be worshiping this Sunday (assuming it is a Catholic parish). This is the ground
you will be troding. So when you see this (if you are lucky)
or even this
know that you are really present at this moment in time
where this is happening
and in this company
If that doesn't get you excited, if that doesn't make you instantly understand what Vatican II was talking about, you might need to check your pulse.
